Our pick

1. The Pod Company Sauna Pod

Portable hot-air sauna tent

8.8/10

The Sauna Pod is a cotton tent on a steel frame with a 1,500W hot-air heater, so it's neither steam nor infrared, and it's the only portable sauna here that reaches 85°C. The Pod Company says that takes 15 to 20 minutes. It's 95cm across and 172cm tall, fits users up to 6ft 7in and comes with a tall folding chair.

The canvas is double-layer cotton treated with natural wax for water and fire resistance, and it can be used indoors or out. The frame poles come with sleeves because they get too hot to touch, so keep the sleeves on.

It's £499 against a stated £999, weighs 14kg and ships free from Daventry, with a 1-year warranty and 30-day returns if you pay the postage. The controller sets time and temperature, but the page doesn't mention an automatic shut-off.

Buy it if

  • You want 80°C-plus heat without a cabin
  • You have a metre of floor and 1.75m of height
  • You'd like the option of using it outdoors

Skip it if

  • You want steam
  • You need a stated auto shut-off

Best steam tent

2. Pulsio Sauna Pod

Portable steam sauna tent

8.5/10

Pulsio's pod is a pop-up tent fed by a 2,000W steam generator with a 3.6 litre tank, 15 heat levels and a wireless remote. It reaches 55°C, runs sessions of up to 90 minutes and folds to 15cm deep. At £299.99 it's the cheapest portable here with its safety features spelled out.

Those features are an automatic power-off and two exits, which matter in a tent with a steamer at your feet. Humid air at 55°C feels hotter than dry air at the same temperature, but it won't come near the 85°C of the Sauna Pod.

The warranty is 1 year, and tracked delivery is free over £60 and takes 1 to 2 days. Budget a few minutes after each session to empty the tank and air the tent.

Buy it if

  • You want steam rather than dry heat
  • Your budget is about £300
  • You want auto power-off and two exits

Skip it if

  • You want temperatures above 55°C
  • You have nowhere to dry a damp tent
  • You'd rather not fill a water tank each time

Best infrared

3. BON CHARGE Infrared PEMF Sauna Dome

Lie-down infrared dome

8.2/10

The Dome is the only infrared option here that you lie in without being wrapped: two half-domes over a heated mat, 1,200W in all, with the domes reaching 90°C and a 1 to 60 minute timer. In use it's 180cm long, 80cm wide and 45cm tall.

Portable is relative. It weighs 33kg and stacks to 97cm by 80cm by 47cm, so it moves between rooms rather than travels. At £1,995 it costs four times the Sauna Pod.

Buy it if you want infrared heat lying down and a blanket feels too close. A towel insert and a pillow come in the box, and the warranty is 1 year.

Buy it if

  • You want infrared rather than steam or hot air
  • You prefer lying down
  • You have a cupboard for a 97cm stack

Skip it if

  • You want to take it away with you
  • Your budget is under £1,000
  • You want to sit upright

Easiest to carry

4. MiHIGH Infrared Sauna Blanket

Infrared sauna blanket

8.0/10

If portable means fitting it in a car boot, a blanket wins. The MiHIGH rolls into its own carry bag, plugs into a UK socket and needs only somewhere heat-proof to lie on. Its controller runs 25 to 75°C and it takes 10 to 15 minutes to warm up.

At £140, down from £315, it's the cheapest way to find out whether you'll keep up a heat habit at home. MiHIGH states no auto-off timer, so set an alarm, and once opened it can only be returned if faulty.

You lie down rather than sit, and your head stays outside in room air. That suits some people better than a tent and others not at all.

Buy it if

  • You want something to take away with you
  • Your budget is under £150
  • You'd rather lie down

5. Gymproluxe Tropical Sauna Pod

Portable steam sauna tent

7.4/10

Gymproluxe's Tropical Sauna Pod follows the same pattern as Pulsio's: a pop-up steam tent with 15 levels, up to 55°C, room for users up to 6ft 4in, and a case just 15cm deep. At £245, down from £395, it comes with a sweat mat, a chair and a small light panel.

It costs £55 less than the Pulsio and tells you much less. The product page gives no steamer wattage, no tank size and no mention of an automatic shut-off.

UK delivery takes 2 to 3 working days, and there's a 30-day money-back guarantee. If safety cut-outs matter to you, the extra £55 for the Pulsio buys the stated ones.

  • Your budget stops at £250
  • You want a chair and mat included

Sauna tent, blanket or cabin

Portable saunas trade heat and comfort for the ability to put them away. A tent or pod is about the size of a person sitting down and goes in a cupboard afterwards, a blanket needs nothing but somewhere to lie, and a plug-in cabin stays up for good.

If you'd use it most days, a one-person infrared cabin is the better buy: sturdier, warmer to sit in and always ready. If you want to lie down, infrared sauna blankets cost less than a dome and store smaller.

Steam tents versus infrared and hot-air pods

A steam tent is a fabric enclosure fed by a steam generator: you fill a tank, the unit boils it and the steam fills the tent. The two here reach 55°C, and humid air feels hotter than dry air at the same temperature, but you're left with a damp tent to dry and a tank to empty. Pulsio's steamer draws 2,000W and holds 3.6 litres.

Hot-air pods and infrared domes are dry. The Pod Company's Sauna Pod uses a 1,500W heater to bring the air to 85°C, close to a traditional sauna, while the BON CHARGE Dome warms you directly from infrared panels in the dome above you. At the 26.32p per kWh price cap for October to December 2026, an hour at full power costs 53p for the Pulsio steamer, 39p for the Sauna Pod and 32p for the Dome.

Portable sauna safety: timers and auto shut-off

A portable sauna is a heater in a small enclosed space, often in a bedroom, so the safety features matter more than the extras. This is what each seller states.

Where a seller doesn't state an auto shut-off, set a phone alarm and don't use the sauna when you might fall asleep. Run it from a wall socket rather than an extension lead, keep children and pets away from steamers and hot poles, and get out at once if you feel dizzy or sick, both early symptoms of heat exhaustion on the NHS list. Anything that draws more than a 13A socket can supply needs its own circuit, which brings in the electrical requirements for a sauna and an electrician.

Questions buyers ask

Do portable saunas get hot enough?

Hot enough to sweat, which is what they're for. The steam tents here top out at 55°C, the hot-air Sauna Pod reaches 85°C and the BON CHARGE Dome 90°C, but none matches a cabin for comfort or how long it will last.

Are portable steam saunas safe?

The main risks are overheating and a steamer of boiling water at your feet, so choose one with a stated auto shut-off, like the Pulsio. Run it from a wall socket, keep sessions short at first and get out if you feel dizzy, sick or get a headache.

Steam or infrared portable sauna?

Steam if you like humid heat and don't mind drying the tent; dry heat if you want less mess. The steam tents here reach 55°C, while the dry options are the 85°C hot-air Sauna Pod and the 90°C BON CHARGE Dome.

How much does a portable sauna cost to run?

32p to 53p an hour at full power for the tents, pod and dome here, at the October to December 2026 price cap of 26.32p per kWh. A blanket costs less, about 16p an hour for a 600W model.
