Our pick

1. Polar Recovery Sauna Cube Mini

Thermowood cabin, electric

9.3/10

The Mini is the Sauna Cube cut to a couple's size: the same 45mm thermowood walls and black Katepal roof on a 1.67m by 1.2m footprint, with a 3.5kW Harvia Vega heater included. Inside there's 1.49m of bench width and just under a metre of depth, which means two people sitting up rather than lying down.

It's £4,699.99 with a wooden front and £5,499.99 with full glass. That's more than the cheapest two-seaters, and what the difference buys is the walls: thermowood at this thickness holds heat without a lining, which is why a 3.5kW heater is enough. It still needs a dedicated 32A supply, so the electrician's visit is the same as for a bigger cabin.

Buy it if

  • Two regular users
  • A level patch about 1.7m wide and 1.2m deep
  • You want thermowood without paying for five seats

Skip it if

  • You want to lie down (the 3 to 5 person Cube allows it)
  • You'll have guests most weekends
  • There's no route for a 32A circuit

2. CenturaHeat 2 Person Steam House

Hemlock cabin, electric

8.6/10

The cheapest proper two-seater here at £3,060, and the only one hard-wired at 16A rather than needing a 32A circuit, which keeps the electrical work small. The 3kW stove sits in a hemlock cabin 1.2m wide and 1.05m deep, with app control as well as the panel on the cabin.

The trade is heat. 3kW in thinner hemlock walls takes longer to reach sauna temperature than the thermowood cabins, and on a cold evening it works harder to stay there. At 2.3m tall it's also the tallest two-seater here, still under the 2.5m boundary limit.

Buy it if

  • You want the lowest price for a real stove
  • A big new circuit would be expensive at your house
  • Most sessions will be in the warmer months

Skip it if

  • You want fast heat-ups on winter evenings
  • You'd rather have thermowood walls
  • You want 90°C and above regularly

Best infrared

3. Polar Recovery Eclipse 2 Person

Outdoor infrared cabin

8.5/10

The Eclipse is an outdoor infrared cabin: a black aluminium shell, a cedar interior, six full-spectrum infrared heaters, mood lighting and Bluetooth speakers. It runs at 40 to 65°C and plugs into a 32A commando socket, so there's no heater to hard-wire.

Infrared isn't a sauna in the Finnish sense. There are no stones and no steam, and the air stays cooler while the panels warm you directly, so sessions run longer at lower temperatures. If that's what you want, this is the outdoor version done properly, with a 2 year warranty and a 90-day money-back guarantee. At 1.3m by 1.1m it takes the least ground of anything here. It's currently sold on pre-order.

Buy it if

  • You prefer longer, gentler sessions
  • Your space is about 1.3m by 1.1m
  • You want a plug, not a hard-wired heater

Skip it if

  • You want steam off the stones
  • You want 80°C and above
  • You need it delivered this month

Best barrel

4. Fonteyn Rustic Red Cedar Barrel, 4ft

Cedar barrel, electric

8.3/10

A short barrel in A-grade western red cedar with a 4.5kW heater included, for two people, at £3,495 direct from Fonteyn. Cedar smells the part, resists rot naturally and weathers to silver if you leave it untreated.

Barrels warm quickly because there are no corners, and the 4ft model suits a side return or the end of a narrow garden. The curve means sitting upright only, and the 4ft comes with assembly instructions rather than a fitter. If two users become four, the 6ft is £4,395 and the 8ft £4,995, and both of those are delivered and assembled.

Buy it if

  • A narrow plot
  • You like the look and smell of cedar
  • You want a heater in the price under £3,500

Skip it if

  • You want to stretch out on a bench
  • You prefer a square cabin's headroom
  • You want it assembled for you at the 4ft size

Best architecture

5. Finnmark EMBA

CLT cabin, panoramic glass

8.1/10

The EMBA is a two-person cabin built from cross-laminated timber with a thermo-pine finish and a panoramic glass wall, on a 1.51m by 1.43m footprint. It's a piece of architecture more than a kit.

It's £12,995 for the cabin alone, or £14,758 with a HUUM Drop 6kW heater, controller and stones, and the black finish is now a special order. That's more than three Sauna Cube Minis. Pay it if the sauna is the centrepiece of a designed garden; otherwise the same heat costs much less elsewhere on this page.

Buy it if

  • The sauna is the focal point of the garden
  • You want a panoramic glass wall
  • Budget is secondary to design

Skip it if

  • You're comparing on price per session
  • You want the heater in the price
  • A kit you can build in a weekend

How much room two people need

A 2-person sauna means two adults sitting up. Plan on about 70cm of bench per person and a bench depth of at least 50cm; the Sauna Cube Mini gives 1.49m of width inside, which is two people with room to shift. Lying down needs a bench close to 2m long, which is the inside width of the 3 to 5 person Sauna Cube we rank first overall.

The heater shrinks with the room. A 3 to 3.5kW heater is matched to a two-person cabin, which is why the Mini ships with the 3.5kW Vega rather than the 6kW unit in the larger Cube.

If you want the heat and the steam, buy a traditional cabin. If you want longer sessions you can talk through, or you're unsure about an electrician's bill, the outdoor infrared cabins are the other route, and the two aren't substitutes for each other.

Questions buyers ask

Can two adults lie down in a 2-person sauna?

No. A 2-person sauna is sized for two people sitting up. Lying flat needs a bench close to 2m long, which you only get in 3 to 5 person cabins.

What size heater does a 2-person sauna need?

Around 3 to 4.5kW for a two-person cabin. The Sauna Cube Mini uses a 3.5kW Harvia Vega, the CenturaHeat 2 Person a 3kW stove and the Fonteyn 4ft barrel a 4.5kW heater.

How big is a 2-person outdoor sauna?

Footprints on this list run from 1.3m by 1.1m for the Eclipse infrared to 1.67m by 1.2m for the Sauna Cube Mini. Allow a little extra around the cabin for air flow and for treating the timber.

Is a 2-person sauna cheaper to run?

Yes. A 3.5kW heater draws a little over half the power of a 6kW one, so an hour at full power costs about 92p at the 26.32p per kWh price cap for October to December 2026, against about £1.58 for 6kW.
